If you are New York bound PLEASE help with as many events as possible. We are looking for baked good donations for both bake sales. We are in the process of creating a new T shirt design. In the meantime we want to sell our current shirts. Anyone have ideas of where to sell them? We loved selling them at the Spring dance recital at MSU! Email Allison (Ehlers510@missouristate.edu) to sign up for the bake sales. We need volunteers to work one hour shifts starting at 11:30am and ending at 4pm. Also, mark your calendars for another bake night on Sunday February 12th. We will be making flowers to sell as well as cookies to decorate!

Ladies, in the name of art (FASHION) donate your used prom dresses this Saturday to support the HUG fund. You know you'll never wear them again. Read the article below for exact dates and times.

Donate prom dresses to benefit HUG fund

Kickapoo High School is soliciting prom dress donations for a spring sale to benefit its Helping Us Graduate fund. The HUG fund was initiated to assist independent students pay for important senior year activities such as prom, senior portraits or graduation.

The first day to donate prom dresses is Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell Ave, or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Library Station, 2535 N. Kansas Expressway. Donations will be accepted at the same times and locations on Jan. 14 and Feb. 25.

The prom dress sale will be Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31.

Living on their own without parental support, many KHS independent students struggle to pay for necessities and lack the resources to pay for the extras that make senior year special, explained KHS school nurse Tammy Holley, who helped create the fund along with a former KHS student council member.
“These are things independent students miss out on since they are paying for their own living expenses,” Holley said. “This fundraiser will help us bolster the HUG fund so that we can also help independent students meet some of their daily needs like transportation and necessities.”

Event Details:

The Department of Art and Design will hold the second BFA Exhibit at the Student Exhibition Center. The exhibit will start on Tuesday, November 29 and run through December 8. There will be a reception on Friday, December 2 and it will coincide with the First Friday Art Walk. The reception will start at 6:00 pm and close at 10:00 pm.
The art featured in this exhibit is by students who are completing their degree requirements for a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Art. Students displaying their bodies of work are: Leonel Alvarez, Animation; Adrian Johnson, Ceramics; Kaden Myers, Ceramics; Adam Ross, Animation; and Brandon C. Small, Drawing.

Hope everyone had a great holiday! We sure did. In celebration of art (LITERATURE!!) and the next big holiday Rebecca Clarke will be hosting a white elephant book exchange tomorrow evening at the library center! It is at 7:30 pm. Bring a book, join the club, make new friends!

Bring a gift wrapped book from your collection to give away. It's also an opportunity to wear your strange, funny , or just plain ugly holiday-inspired attire. A prize goes to the most outrageous.

Our last meeting of the year will be this Sunday December 4th at 5pm in Brick City (upstairs by the couches). We are going to talk NEW YORK like never before and share our numbers from the auction and bake sale.

For Art Education students that register before January 30th your price will be $75!!!!!! To become an NAEA member you'll pay a $25 fee for the whole year. That is $100 total, not too bad! We're thinking of renting an apartment in Brooklyn from AirBnB.com which will be $255 for the four days and three nights. Tickets to New York are fairly cheap right now so HURRY and buy your plane ticket. We will be applying for SOFAC funding from Missouri State ASAP. These funds plus the money we raised will help keep out of pocket costs very low. Email any of the officers for additional information! Hello,
This Sunday, November 6th, there will be an NAEA meeting at 5 pm at Brick City. We will be distributing what is left of the art auction items after this Friday so that all the items can be delivered; and we will be discussing a possible rescheduling of our bake sale and a recycled art project that we could get involved with in the near future.

Reminder: Come out for the NAEA art auction this Friday at LemonDrop! It is from 6-10 pm, and there will be live music throughout the evening and art hanging in the gallery in addition to the silent auction. We will also be selling other items such as handmade earrings, headbands, and t-shirts. We have a lot of awesome items on the silent auction, so come and place some bids! The proceeds will help NAEA members go the National NAEA conference and a portion of the proceeds will go to a local arts program in Springfield in need of support. This Sunday, September 25th, we will be having an NAEA meeting at5:00pm at Brick City. We will probably hold the meeting upstairs outside the drawing classrooms, but if we find a better spot that is open we might be elsewhere in the building. This new meeting time on Sundays will become permanent for all our meetings this semester if it proves to work better than Mondays.
We will be discussing the Fall Conference at Knob Noster with carpooling, etc. as well as new developments in fundraisers and our other big items on our agenda.

First Meeting!

Hello everybody! The MSU Chapter of the National Art Education Association is having its first meeting of the semester this Monday, August 29th, at 6:00 pm. We will hold the meeting at Brick City in the Art Ed room, Room 117. There will be cookies at the meeting!

We are going to talk about the NAEA Conference in New York City this coming March in addition to the fundraisers we have planned to raise money for the conference. So far we are planning to have a bake sale in October, an Art Auction at the First Friday Art Walk in November, and hopefully a fundraiser with McAlister's. If you are interested in coming to the conference we are going to need your help at the fundraisers!

To be an active member of NAEA everyone is required to participate in a community service per semester.

Here is your chance to be involved!

There is a business opening on South St. between Elm and Walnut, and they need help with their window display. The story is that they give peanut butter to countries in need when you purchase something from their clothing store. So we are going to build a sculpture out of peanut butter jars in the shape of a peace sign, because that is symbolic of their purpose.

Wednesday (tomorrow) we are going to start the building process. We will be in room 7 at the Art Annex with all the supplies at the earliest 10am until 5pm at the latest. If you can come and help please let us know!

Springfield Artist Passes Away

Robert E. Smith

October 13 1927 - Febuary 12 2010

His works are described as Bold, Colorful, and Honest. He was known as a man who wanted to make people smile and laugh, as is depicted in most of his art work. A replication of his painting is downtown on Campbell and Walnut. There is a blog dedicated to Robert at roberteugenesmith.blogspot.com.
